5 Ways Practiced Yoga on the Beach

A beautiful benefit of yoga is that the practice can be taken off your mat and into your daily life. Not only in keeping your body fluid, flexible and strong to engage in life's activities - but also in mindset, perspective, and self compassion.

Many people asked me if I “did yoga” on the beach during my family vacation. Yes, I did take some fun Beach Yoga pictures and did a couple sun salutations. But the real treat was practicing the art of yoga as a way of being.

Check out how I practiced Yoga - On and Off the Mat....and on the Beach!

  1. YOGI SQAUTS - In our Hatha Yoga class we have a saying that practicing our Yogi Squats will help us live to 100 (and beyond!). Research indicates that cultures in which squatting - as in gardening, farming, etc have a higher incidence of Centenarians. We practiced LOTS of this during hours of Shelling :)

  2. PLAY & PERSPECTIVE - Inversions (being upside down), can literally help you gain a different perspective on any situation. Play is the main occupation of a child. It was glorious to witness this uninhibited and also engage! As an adult, can we remember how to PLAY and not take ourselves so seriously?

  3. CREATIVE FLOW - With all the swimming and the rhythm of the ocean, my sacral chakra was free to flow! This energy point is connected to creativity. Creating shell mandalas was a fun way to get my creative energy flowing and commune with nature.

  4. MINDFULNESS - What better way to practice being fully present and emersed in our sensations than in nature? Being present allows us to be open to things we may not have witnessed before. Like all these little butterfly shells waiting to be found amongst the thousands scattered on the shore line!

  5. LOTS OF SAVASANA - My favorite pose was practiced alot! I had full intentions to read a book while on vacation, but I found myself mesmorized by the ocean waves and lulled into stillness and a feeling of oneness. Mmmmm Namaste!
