5 Healing Routines for a Heavy Heart
When empathy and grief for the collective becomes too overwhelming, remember these healing routines to nurture your body, mind & spirit.
It’s ok to take a break from the news and conversations with others and in your own mind and heart, take a breather and a break. It’s essential.
1.) Flower Power. Vibrationally speaking, flowers absorb heavy energy. They lift our mood and bring drops of joy. Surround yourself with colors and greenery, check on your garden, get some fresh cut flowers for your home.
2.) Go for a walk outside. So simple. So profound. A light stroll can shift your physical lymph system, move stagnant yin energy, regulate your nervous system, and help you open your perspective with sensory stimuli and literally getting out of your head (and home). BONUS, our bodies co-regulate with the earth and trees.
3.) Pets. Man do these special creatures just KNOW. If you have a pet, cuddle up and REST. They will come find you and provide comfort, lower your blood pressure, and help you connect with love energy.
4.) Try a Tonglen meditation. Inhale for you, exhale for them (those suffering you are so deeply concerned about). Compassion and peace in, compassion and peace out Pema Chodron has some good ones on YouTube. Let it flow.
5.) Use your hands. Do something creative, or something route. Color, wash dishes, paint your nails, play in the garden and dirt, fold laundry, scrub something, dry brush your body. Get your hands busy - they impact your health and wellbeing more than you know!
*A gentle reminder that self care includes boundaries. You are allowed to take in hard info (ie the world news) in small tidbits, or not at all. You can say enough for today and lock those apps on your phone. Our nervous systems weren’t meant to tap into trauma at all times of the day from all parts of the world. Empathy REQUIRES Selfcare. Be kind and gentle with yourself. And look for the rainbows after the storm .
